James Edward Smith, 53, of Staunton passed away at his home Sunday, February 19, 1989.

He was born November 19m 1935 in Highland County, a son of Mary Cathrine (Bird) Smith of Mill Gap and L. Milburn Smith.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and was retired from Smith's transfer with 22 years of service.

At the time of his death he was employed by Augusta Cooperative Farm Bureau.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his widow, Harriet (Mullenax) Smith; a daughter, Jeannie A. Smith of Dayton; a son, Seth A. Smith, at home; sister, Eloise Puffenbarger of Blue Grass; four brothers, Charles E. of Dunmore, WV, Ralph D. of Waynesboro, Delmas T. of Staunton and Loy M. Smith Jr. of Martinsburg, WV.

A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Revs. Roy O/ Creech and Robert Gue, with burial in  Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Harry Lighter Jr., James H. Woods, Nelson Cline, Wayne Agnor, Fred Floyd, John Wagner, Joe Brown and Gerald Botkin.

The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in McDowell and other times at the residence.
