Joe Arch Simmons, 55, of Staunton passed away Monday evening, August 21, 1989 at King's Daughters' Hospital.
He was born September 8, 1933 at Doe Hill, a son of William Albert and Lydia Frances (Crummett) Simmons.
On June 30, 1962, he married Margaret Varner who survives.
He was a member of Doe Hill United Methodist Church and attended Hiner Brethren Church. He had been a driver-salesman for Dod Distributing Co. of Verona for 19 years.
In addition to his widow, survivors include two daughters, Cheryl and Billie Jo Simmons, both of the home; seven sisters, Myrtle S. Simmons of Woodbridge, Catherine S. Armstrong of Manassas, Dorothy S. Hutchins and Elizabeth S. Simmons, both of Staunton, Carolyn S. Pullin and Leoda S. green, bother of Churchville, and Charlotte McCray of Virginia Beach; three brothers, Darrell and Larry Dean, both of Church, and Edward Jake Simmons of McDowell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service will be conducted 11 a.m. thursday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Revs. John Garber and Lin Lockwood, with burial in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Garden.
Pallbearers will be Joe Cox, Roy Eavey, Steve and John Dod, Henley and Eddie Carter and Dickie and Gary Miller.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in McDowell.
