Joseph William McCray, 72, died Saturday evening, November 10, 1990 of an apparent heart attack while hunting near White Way Lunch in Augusta County.
He was born March 31, 1918 in Highland County, a son of Clinton and Etta (Hoover) McCray.
On June 24, 1957 he married Necema Jane Muterspaw.
He was a member of Jolivue United Methodist Church, was a veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theater. He was retired from Augusta Lumber Company.
In addition to his wife of Staunton, survivors include a daughter, Ellen Staubus of Mt. Solon; four sons, James of Mt. Solon, Wayne and David, both of Staunton and Edward McCray of Flint, MI; two brothers, Claude E. and John C. McCray, both of Harrisonburg; six sisters, Adeline Bodkin and Ethel Botkin, both of Bridgewater, Lydia Wilfong of Dayton, Florence Weekly of Mt. Solon, Mary Simmons of Maryland, and Janet Eckard of Harrisonburg; three grandchildren.
A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at McDowell Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Lester LaPrade. Butial will be in Clover Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Elwood Cash, John Staubus, Tim Decker, Calvin Morris, Perry Simmons and Richard Weekly.
