Joseph Coltman Pritchard, 72, of Monterey, died on Thursday, September 4, 1997 at his residence.
He was born on April 1, 1925 at Wheeling, WV, a son of Dellus W. and Pauline (Hall) Pritchard.
He was an editor and publisher of The Recorder from 1955-1985 and a member of Monterey United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees.
He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Monterey Lions Club for 41 years.
He also served on the board of the Highland Medical Center, was president of Highland Telephone Cooperative for a number of years and one of the founders of the Highland Rescue Squad.
In addition to his widow, Ada, to whom he married on November 30, 1946, he is survived by three daughters, Lynn Almond of Hightown, Jane Pitsenbarger of Raleigh, N.C. and Noni Yount of Andove, Mass.; a sister, Janice Wagner of Monterey; and four grandchildren.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, in Monterey United Methodist Church, by the Revs. Robert Haley and Jerry Ginn. Burial will following in the Monterey Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Wagner, Donnie McCraw, Scott McGraw, Ralph Hammer, Dr. Thaine Billingsley, Bill Niswander, Jerry Moats and John Lohr.
Honorary pallbearers will be member of the Monterey Lions Club.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell.
