Kathleen Carpenter

June 6, 1918 — July 19, 2007

Kathleen H. Carpenter, 89, of Colonial Heights and formerly of Monterey, died Thursday, July 19, 2007 at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg.  She was born June 6, 1918 at Monterey a daughter of the late Patrick Reece and Bertha (Gutshall) Hiner.  On October 5, 1938, she married, Leon Grant Carpenter, who preceded her in death on May 13, 2003.  She was also predeceased by a son, Darell Leon Carpenter.

Mrs. Carpenter was a member of Monterey United Methodist Church.

She retired from the American Safety Razor Company in Verona.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia C. and Lawrence A. Wilson of Colonial Heights; four grandchildren, Kathy W. Heretick and her husband, Martin of Hopewell, Lucinda W. Lorentz and her husband, Richard of Colonial Heights, Teresa Carpenter of Waynesboro and Michael D. Carpenter and his wife, Beverly of Waynesboro; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Mable H. Terry of Monterey; a brother, Stanley Hiner of Mechanicsville and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 22, 2007 at Monterey United Methodist Church by the Rev. Derek Tomek, Rev. Donald E. Rose and Rev. Mike Puffenbarger.  Burial will be in Big Valley Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Mike Carpenter, Billy and Jimmy Hiner, Ronnie and Dickie Craig, Carl Jenkins, Danny Rexrode and Donald McCauley.  Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.

The family will receive friend from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell.
