Kathleen Smith

MONTEREY, VA Kathleen W. Smith, 89, of Monterey, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014 at her home. She was born April 10, 1925 in Durbin, WV a daughter of the late Joseph Houston and Margie Marie (Rexrode) Wimer. A homemaker, Mrs. Smith had also worked many years at Aileen, Inc. She loved looking after her family, cooking and bird watching. She was a member of Monterey United Methodist Church. On November 10, 1945, she married Frank W. Smith, Sr., who passed away two years ago on the same day. She was also predeceased by a sister, Gretta Johnson. She is survived by her son, Wilson Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Jack McConnell; grandson, Brandon Smith and wife, Hilary; two great-granddaughters, Makynley and Ashlyn Smith, all of Monterey; her sister, Dot Stone of Franklin, WV. Also surviving is a special friend to the family and Brandon's mother, Ruth Newman; two nieces, Rita Simmons and Cindy Johnson and nephew, Steve Johnson. A graveside memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m., Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Blue Grass Cemetery with the Rev. Andre Crummett officiating. Friends may call at the home of Wilson Smith.
