Laura True

Laura Jean (Hiner) True, 91, of Fairfield Glade, Tenn., passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 at Cumberland Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 21, 1925 in Mill Gap, Va., a daughter of the late Andrew Wellington “Earl” and Martha Theresa (Ryder) Hiner.

Mrs. True was raised and baptized at Green Hill United Methodist Church. At age 18, she left Highland County and was employed by Oak Ridge Y12 plant as a draftsman until her retirement. She will be remembered as an avid and accomplished golfer, she enjoyed needle working and time spent with her nieces and nephew, whom she helped to raise.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family being predeceased by her parents; two brothers, E. Stuart Hiner and Brown Hiner; and a sister Rebecca Hiner Bird. On March 16, 2011 she was preceded in death by her husband Allen Howard True.

Mrs. True is survived by two nieces, Carolyn H. McCray of McDowell, Va. and Eleanore H. Rexrode and husband, Elbert of Waynesboro, Va.; nephew, Ernest L. Hiner and wife, Peggy of Waynesboro, Va.; great nephews, Michael B. McCray and wife, Tracey of McDowell, Va. and Robert S. Hiner of Swoope, Va.; great-niece, Melanie A. Ross and husband, Phillip of Waynesboro, Va.; as well as additional nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted Monday, May 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. in Green Hill Cemetery, Mill Gap, Va. with pastor Bobbie Jo Gardner officiating.

Active pallbearers will be Ernest Hiner, Michael McCray, Robert Hiner and Randy Harold.
