Lawrence B. Burns

Lawrence Bruce Burns, age 79, of Monterey, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at his home.

He was born on December 29, 1946 in Tacoma, WA, a son of the late Lawrence A. and Bessie Marie (Moon) Burns.

A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Burns served a total of 13 years, including active duty in Vietnam.

A quiet gentleman, Mr. Burns never looked for praise or was one to boast - he quietly worked for the ones he loved the most. His dreams and worries were seldom spoken, his wants were very few, but his firm foundation held the family together through all of life’s storms. He was a sturdy hand to hold in the times of stress and strife and was the true friend who you could turn to when times were good or bad. Above all, he was his family’s greatest blessing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Alexander Bruce Colby and Kirra Lyn Colby; and sister, Patsy Burns Hammer.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Burns, of Monterey; daughter, Teresa Colby of Monterey; son Chuck Burns of Port Orchard, WA; grandchildren, Che’re Jenaway, Nikki Burns, Cheyenne Nadine Colby, Skylar Blu; as well as great-grandchildren, Harmony Brown and Adonis Brown.

A celebration of life will be held and announced at a later date.
