Lee Roy Jones

March 25, 1937 — September 18, 2025

Hot Springs

Lee Roy Jones, age 88, of Hot Springs, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor.

He was born in Bath County on March 25, 1937, a son of the late Andrew Harrison and Ettie Pearl (Sevey) Jones.

Mr. Jones began his working career working for Holmes McLaughlin as a truck driver and funeral attendant. Additionally, Lee Roy worked for the Ingalls family in Hot Springs as a gardener and landscaper and in the greenhouse at the Homestead, all along honing his green thumb and skills which enabled him to become a self-employed landscaper.

Lee Roy will be remembered for his love of Bluegrass and Country music. He was self-taught in playing ten different instruments, and even once composed a hymn. He also loved to sing and enjoyed evenings playing music together with Minnie, close friend Jason Hiner, or any other family or friends that would stop by. Additionally, he was well-known for his skills in woodworking and had proudly built most of the furniture in his home. Truly, he was a man of many talents and appreciations.

With his kind spirt and outgoing nature, he made a positive and lasting impact on the lives of many and showed compassion and care in all he did. Above all else, he will be remembered as a caring provider and role model to the children he helped raise, ensuring they never went hungry and always knew they were loved. Lee Roy's legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of the children who called him “Grandpa.”

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Alpha Wilson Jones and Mildred Jones; three brothers, Fillmore Jones (infancy), Jack Jones, and James Jones; two nieces, Ettie Mildred Wolfe Jones (“Cookie”) and Minnie Pearl Jones (“Peach”), with whom he had a close bond.

Surviving family members include his nieces, Joyce “Tiny” Jones of Hot Springs, Joyce Jones of Clifton Forge, and Charlotte Gibbs of Millboro; his nephew, Richard Jones of Hot Springs; his great nephews, Aaron Wolfe of Hot Springs, John Jones of Millboro, Kendrick Smith of Millboro, and Chandler Smith of Buena Vista; his great nieces, Elizabeth Talucci of Hot Springs, and Natlie Jones of Millboro, all of whom Lee Roy helped raise; and special friends, Lisa Hise, Paul Dean, Sue Kershner, and Adrian Brown, who he called his “buddy.”

A graveside funeral service will be held 3:30 p.m., Friday, September 26, 2025 in Warm Springs Cemetery with Pastor Steve Shaver officiating.

The family will receive friends half an hour prior to the service at the graveside and other times at their homes.
