Leoda Frances (Simmons) Green

Leoda Frances (Simmons) Green, age 89, of Harrisonburg, passed away Monday, August 4, 2025 at home.

She was born October 23, 1935 in Doe Hill, a daughter of the late William Albert and Lydia Frances (Crummett) Simmons.

On May 24, 1955, she married John H. Green, who preceded her in death on January 7, 2007.

A Christian, Mrs. Green was a member of Parnassus United Methodist Church and active within the United Methodist Women's group. After 32 years of driving a bus for Augusta County Public Schools, she retired to spend time with her family and enjoy the things she loved, including pitching horseshoes, camping, and working on puzzles and crafts. Above all, Mrs. Green was a very giving, loving, and caring mother, who was selflessly committed to her family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brothers, Edward “Jake” Simmons, Joe Simmons, and Darrell Simmons; and sisters, Myrtle Simmons, Dorothy Hutchens, Elizabeth Simmons, and Catherine Armstrong.

She is survived by her sons, John Michael Green and wife, Shelia of Stuarts Draft, William David Green and wife, Randi of Gloucester, and Donald Lee Green and wife, Penny of Harrisonburg; brother, Larry Dean Simmons of Churchville; sisters, Charlotte McCray of Crozet and Carolyn Pullin of Staunton; grandsons, Brian Green of Churchville, Jonathan Green of Newport News, Adam Marshall of Staunton, Chad Marshall of Mount Solon, Derek Trumbo of Harrisonburg, and Grey Davenport of Abilene, Texas; granddaughter, Leslie Payne of Goose Creek, SC; nine great-grandchildren; as well as a great number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2025 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with Rev. Andre Crummett officiating. Burial will follow in Union Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Churchville.

Pallbearers will be David Simmons, Steve Varner, Jonathan Green, Barry Pullins, Terry Pullins, and Derek Trumbo.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
