Leonard Neil

Leonard “Ham” Junior Neil, 61, of Burnsville, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family, Saturday, April 22, 2017 at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.  He was born July 12, 1955 in Bath County, a son of Lucille (Hicklin) Neil and the late Junior Nelson Neil.

Mr. Neil was a member of Burnsville United Methodist Church, longtime member and chief of the Burnsville Volunteer Fire Department, and was employed with F.C. Plecker and Sons for 32 years.  He will be remembered for his devotion to the fire department, which meant a great deal to him, as well as for his love of hunting, fishing, and gardening.

In addition to his mother of McDowell, survivors include his wife of 37 years, Lorie Neil; daughters, Nicole and Ashley Neil both of Burnsville; his son, Adam Neil of Burnsville; his grandson, Clayton Smith; his brother, Danny Neil and wife, Deena of Williamsville; his sister, Wanda Roberts and husband, Grady Jr. “Duddie” of Burnsville; nieces, Christina Botkin of Lafayette, TN, Misty Nelson of Burnsville, and Jennifer Peters of Millboro and Laura and Brittney Hise, both of Roanoke; his nephew, Scottie Neil of McDowell; as well as great nieces and nephews; Brooke and Cole Nelson, Peyton and Trevor Neil, and Baylee Peters, and his special beloved friend, Bandit.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with the Rev. Lorrie Aikens officiating.  Burial will follow in Burnsville Cemetery.

Active pallbearers Craig Plecker, Marty Plecker, Ricky Plecker, Larry Plecker, Harvey Plecker, Brian Lowry, Greg Pritt and Jerry Lowry.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends and co-workers attending the service.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
