Lola Harper

August 19, 1911 — May 28, 2006

Mrs. Lola Mae (Vandevender) Harper, 94, of Monterey, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Sunday, May 28, 2006 at the home of her daughter Brenda Pullin.  Mrs. Harper was born August 19, 1911 at Forks of the Water, a daughter of the late Jerry Solomon and Lizzie Lou (Wagner) Vandevender.

She was a life-long member of the Forks of the Water United Brethren Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Kenton Harper, June 23, 1967, as well as a son Gerald Kenton Harper, March 4, 1990.  Mrs. Harper was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Maxine and Albert Shultz of Monterey, Ruby Gail and Gaylon Sponaugle of Franklin, WV, Elaine and Arnold Lambert of Franklin, WV, Brenda and R.C. Pullin of Monterey; one son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Sharon Harper of Monterey; 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

The will be conducted 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2006 at Obaugh Funeral Home with Pastors Chip Hill, Levin Coulbourn, and Darren Massey.  Vocals during the service to be preformed by Darren and Sandy Massey.  Interment will follow Blue Grass Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons, Roy Lee Harper, Kevin Sponaugle, Mark Lambert, John Hull, Jacob Hull and Drew Sullenberger.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Rodger Propst, Dale Propst, Gary Vandevender, Darrell Vandevender, Earl Alt, John Beverage, Berlin Beverage, Dallas Doyle, Randolph Wagner, Mac Hill, Ronnie White, Ed Spindler, Robert Lambert, Bobby Vandevender, Herb Lightner, Daniel Freed, Billy Grant, Raymond Wilfong and Bo Folks.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00, Tuesday evening.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of the Highlands, PO Drawer Z  Hot Springs, VA 24445; Highland Medical Center, PO Box 490 Monterey, VA 24465; Highland County Rescue Squad, PO Box 268 Monterey, VA 24465 or a Charity Choice.
