Lonnie Oliver Martin, age 76, of Warm Springs passed away Sunday, March 1, 2026 at his home.

He was born February 23, 1950 at the Bath Community House in Hot Springs, the son of the late Winford Clifton and Virginia Zora (Gutshall) Martin.

Lonnie proudly joined the Hot Springs Volunteer Fire Department in 1971, beginning a lifetime of service to his community. Over the years, he remained a faithful and active member, generously giving his time and dedication whenever needed. His leadership and commitment were evident as he served in several roles, including Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. He valued the fellowship amongst his brother firefighters and took great pride in being part of an organization devoted to helping others.

He was a member of Virginia Chapel, his faith an important part of his life.

Lonnie dedicated more than 50 years of service to The Homestead before his retirement, a remarkable milestone that reflected his strong work ethic, loyalty, and perseverance. His years there were marked not only by hard work, but by the relationships he built and the respect he earned from coworkers and friends alike.

A true NASCAR fan, he loved making trips to the races and cheering on his favorite drivers. Those trips were more than just events – they were experiences filled with lasting memories.

Lonnie will be remembered for his dedication, his steady presence, and his love for family, faith, and community. His legacy of service and commitment will continue to be an inspiration to all that knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Clifton “Bruiser” Ryder.

Whose left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years, Virginia (Chestnut) Martin of Warm Springs; his daughter, Lisa Marie Martin of Warm Springs; his son, Scott Edward Ryder and wife, Julie of Clifton Forge; his grandchildren, Candice Dressler of Millboro and Allyson Ryder of Roanoke, as well as Caley Brown, Rowan Wright, and Alivia Wright, all of Clifton Forge; his great-grandchildren, Bryson Green, Kinlee Green, Addie Green, and Torren Ryder; his sister, Theresa Martin-Cox of Grove City, FL.; and his beloved canine sidekick, Shadow.
