Lucy Puffenbarger

Lucy G. Puffenbarger, 92, died December 16, 2010 at her home from complications of Parkinson’s disease.

She was born September 25, 1918 in Monterey, VA and was a daughter of the late William and Rosie (Halterman) Echard.  She was also predeceased by her husband of 50 ½ years, Samuel Harvey Puffenbarger, an infant son, and two sisters, Gracie Simmons and Catherine Echard.

Lucy was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.  She began her career as a Nursing Assistant at Dewitt Army Hospital, Fort Belvoir, VA in 1950, transferring in 1969 to the DC Dept. of Human Resources Rehabilitation Center for Alcoholics, Lorton, VA, from which she retired in 1981.

She is survived by two daughters, Martha A. Puffenbarger and Shirley M. Roach (Kenneth) both of Woodbridge, VA; two sons, Roger L. Puffenbarger of Woodbridge, VA and Samuel G. Puffenbarger (RoseAnna), Augusta, WV, six grandchildren, Jim and Walter Roach, Lorinda Roach Massie, Sarah and Sam Puffenbarger, and Stephanie Puffenbarger Octave,  six great grandchildren, and eight great- great grandchildren; two sisters, Mamie A. Armstrong and Allene Gutshell, Woodbridge, VA, and a brother, Melvin Echard (NormaJean), Monterey, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be Tuesday, December 21, 2010, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, 4143 Dale City, VA.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Parrish, Officiating.

A second visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 27, 2010 at Obaugh Funeral Home, McDowell, VA with a graveside service to follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery, Sugar Grove, WV.
