Luther "Scott" Beverage

May 12, 1954 — July 21, 2024

Richmond and Monterey

Luther “Scott” Beverage, age 70, of Charlottesville and Monterey, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD.

Scott was born on May 12, 1954, in Richmond, a son of the late Charles Byron and Millie (Sullenberger) Beverage. He graduated from Douglas Freeman High School and received his associate degree from Blue Ridge Community College. He retired from Dominion Energy after more than 30 years of dedicated service.

Scott had a profound passion for the outdoors and hands-on activities. He enjoyed working on his family land, beekeeping, producing small-batch maple syrup, and crafting fine wood furniture. Every year, he cultivated an extraordinary vegetable garden, sharing its bounty with family and friends. He also cherished hunting and fishing with his friends and family. Additionally, he was an avid sports fan, particularly loving University of Virginia athletics.

Scott’s family remains inspired by his remarkable work ethic, his natural ability to master nearly any skill, his love for the outdoors, and his friendliness and sense of humor. Above all, they will remember the deep love he had for them.

Scott is survived by his wife of 45 years, Virginia “Jennie” Beverage; his two children, Jason Scott Beverage and his wife, Christina of Charlottesville and Sumers Beverage Wilson and her husband, Andrew of Brooklyn, NY; as well as his six beloved grandchildren: Emmy Beverage (13), Sam Beverage (11), Charley Beverage (8), Carter Wilson (11), Pierce Wilson (9), and Millie Wilson (6). He is also survived by his older brother, Charles Beverage Jr. of Richmond; and his younger sister, Elizabeth Falkner of Henderson, NC.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Monterey Cemetery (Monterey, Virginia).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Monterey Cemetery, c/o Nancy Sweitzer, 228 Triple Oak Lane, Hot Springs, VA 24445.
