M. Ephriam Vandevander. 68, of McDowell died Monday evening, February 13, 1989 at his home.
He was born March 28, 1920 in Highland County, a son of Neal and Lillie Vandevander Vandevander.
He was married twice. His first wife, Joy Bennett Vandevander, died Jan. 18, 1972. His second wife, Sadie Thompson Vandevander. died Feb. 5, 1987.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Puffenbarger of Swoope and Patsy Armstrong of McDowell; three sons, Roger of Churchville, Bobby J. of Monterey and Carlston Vandevander of Swoope; two step-daughters, Frances McKay of Jacksonville, Fla., and Gladys Campbell of Staunton; five step-sons, Ralph of Greenville, Lewis of Bridgewater, and Wade, Roy and Arthur Thompson, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Mildred Moats of Harrisonburg and Ada Belle Snyder of McDowell; one brother, Randolph Vandevander of McDowell; 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Steve McMillion, with burial at McKendree Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Delmas, Richard and John Moats, Don Garland, Carl Vandevancer, Dolan Gross and Robert Armstrong.
Grandchildren will serve as flowerbearers.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in McDowell.
