Margaret "Peggy" Jones

Mrs. Margaret “Peggy” (Lunsford) Jones 91, a resident of Friends Home West, died Monday February 13, 2006 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Jones was born in Monterey, Virginia on August 30, 1914 to the late Charles Morgan and Abbie (Fleischer) Lunsford.  She resided in Monterey most of her life, moving to Greensboro in 1988.  Mrs. Jones attended Mary Baldwin College as well as Dunsmore Business College.  While living in Monterey she was an active member of the Monterey United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and a member of the church choir.  She was also very involved with the Monterey Garden Club.  After moving to Greensboro she attended Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church and was a member of the Rachel Caldwell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Guilford Chapter (#301) of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Turner Jones, February 24, 1992; and a brother, Charles Lunford.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her son Edwin T. “Ned” Jones and his wife, Ann of Greensboro, NC and two grandsons, Chris Jones of Greensboro, NC and Bryan Jones of Elon, NC

A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 am on Saturday, February 18, 2006 in Monterey Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Sullivan officiating.  Active pallbearers will be Jacob Hevener, Jim Thompson, Delbert Rexrode, Kyle Almond, Vernon Wooddell, and Robin Sullenberger.  Honorary Pallbearers will the board of directors of the First and Citizens Bank.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to either Monterey United Methodist Church, C/O Kim Billingsley, PO Box 382, Monterey, VA 24465 or to Friends Home West, 6100 West Friendly Ave., Greensboro,
