Marvin "Dick" Eagle

November 9, 1917 — June 18, 2008

Marvin L. “Dick” Eagle, 90, of Richmond and formerly of Monterey, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Retreat Hospital.   He was born November 9, 1917 at Monterey, a son of the late James Albert and Gertie Florence (Puffenbarger) Eagle.

On October 5, 1948, he married Mamie Harold.

Mr. Eagle owned and operated a trucking company, delivering lime and fertilizers to local farmers.  Mr. Eagle was a member and past elder of Monterey Presbyterian Church.  He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, having served in the Pacific Theatre.  He served 3 terms on the Highland County Board of Supervisors, served on the Board of Social Services and on the Board at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College.  He was a former chairman of the Republican Party of Highland County, a member of the Monterey Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, VFW Post #4989, American Legion Post #155 and the Franklin Moose Lodge.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy, Frank and Harry Eagle and a sister, Alma Rexrode.

He is survived by his wife, Mamie Eagle of Richmond; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Pete Arrington of Midlothian; two granddaughters, Ashley Bland of Alexandria and Megan Arrington of Midlothian.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m., Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Monterey Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lester LaPrade and Pastor Chip Hill officiating.  Burial will in Monterey Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Ed Crigler, Don Hower, Dareld Puffenbarger, Austin Shepherd, Jim Thompson, H.H. Whitelaw, Rodger Propst, George Colaw, Jay Hull and Bardon Warner.  Honorary pallbearers will be members of Monterey Lions Club, Monterey Presbyterian Church and friends in attendance.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell.
