Mary Carpenter

July 30, 1908 — February 27, 2005

Mary Bussard Carpenter, 96, of Bolar, died Sunday, February 27, 2005 at Allegheny Regional Hospital.

She was born July 30, 1908 at Bolar a daughter of the late Nathan and Mirtie Woods Bussard.

Mrs. Carpenter was a homemaker. She was member of Valley Bethel church and Valley Bethel Women’s Fellowship.

On August 11, 1926, she married Herman M. Carpenter, who preceded her in death on July 15, 1991. She was also preceded in death by an infant child, three sons, Stanley Harper, Ray Herman and Eldon Walker Carpenter; a daughter, Norma Irene Carpenter; a brother Guy Bussard; two sisters, Edna Klimczak and Mildred Mills and an infant sibling.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Garland W. and Berna Carpenter of Bolar; two daughters-in-law, Emma Carpenter of Staunton and Lillian Carpenter  of Chillicothe, Ohio; a former daughter-in-law, Ida Hodge and her husband David; seven grandchildren, Margaret Kincaid, Michael Carpenter, Russell Carpenter, Sonja Dee Hurley, Audrey Brown, Amy Ruckman and Ronnie Carpenter; eight special step-grandchildren; a sister, Violet and her husband Woody Rocke of Roanoke; and a number of great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Frankie Neff at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 2, at Valley Bethel Church of the Brethern.

Burial was in Big Valley Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Ronnie Carpenter, Blane Ruckman, John Brown, Josh Fish, Ronnie Liptrap and Eugene Bussard.
