Mary Kate Ruckman, 66, of Hightown, died Sunday morning, Feb. 14, 1988 at her home.
She was born December 12,1921 at Cherry Grove, W.Va., a daughter of the late Darlie A. and Mary Elizabeth Nelson Bennett.
On June 28, 1939 she married Elmer Lyndon Ruckman of Hightown, who survives.
Mrs. Ruckman was a member of the Union Chapel United Methodist Church, the Women of the Church and the Extension Homemakers Club. She had been employed by Aileen Inc. at Monterey for 15 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Linda Ruckman Reese of Asheville, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Christy Ruckman of Yorktown; a son, Sam Ruckman of Yorktown; a son-in-law, Oakley Reese of Asheville, N.C.; two brothers, Randy Bennett of Lexington, N.C., and Herman Bennett of Elkton; five sisters, Evelyn Anderson of Ronceverte, W.Va, Margie Bennett and Cornelia Hutchins, both of Baltimore, Md., Hilda Gordon, of Cherry Grove, and Leola Genobles of Spartanburg, S.C.; a grandson, Christopher Hooke; a granddaughter, Nanette Slappey; a foster-granddaughter, Barbara Wolfe; two step-granddaughters, Debbie Reese and Barbara Pearson; a great-granddaughter and three step-great-granddaughters, all of Asheville, N.C.
A funeral service was contacted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Richard Gibson. Burial was in the Blue Grass Cemetery. Active pallbearers were nephews and nephews-in-law. Honorary pallbearers were Stan Poston, Sidney Bragg, Leonard Phillips, Eugene Rexrode, Bill Wolfe, Austin Shepherd, Melvin Johnston, Clarence Davidson,Tony Tannousis, E. B. Wilsie, George Swecker, Bill Hammer, Junior Hise, Jasper Lowery, Lawrence Beverage and friends and neighbors attending the service.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 848-A W. Main St., Salem, Va. 24153, or to the American Caner Society, in care of Ellen Ratcliffe, Monterey, Va. 24465.
