Michael Craig Veasey

December 31, 1937 — January 24, 2023

Monterey

Michael Craig Veasey, 85, died peacefully on January 24, 2023 in Monterey, at home with his family.

He was born in Virginia, December 31, 1937, a son of the late Captain Alexander Craig Veasey, USN, of Philadelphia, Pa. and Frances Guy Davis Veasey of Norfolk. Families of both of his parents were descendants of early settlers in the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia.

He was educated at St. Andrews Episcopal School in Middletown, Delaware and University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He served on the Wisconsin Battle Ship with the U.S. Coast Guard’s Underwater Demolition Team.

An innovative spirit, Michael produced, amongst other things, Sasa Corporation and Future Shift,  security businesses he owned and operated over 50 years in the Washington, D. C. area. He was an avid writer, conceptual artist, and one might even say a linguistic artist as well.   Above all, Michael will be remembered as an intelligent, kindred spirit and loving husband, father and grandfather.

Michael was predeceased by his wife, Nancy Holtzworth Veasey.

He is survived by his son, Alexander Veasey and companion, Anastasia and grandchildren, Jaden and Alexandra, all of Monterey; as well as siblings, Guy Davis Veasey and Mary Stuart Awbrey, both of California.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a late date.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Bolar Volunteer Rescue Squad, c/o Kim Rexrode, 21271 Sam Snead Highway, Warm Springs, Va. 24484.

The family found this “Old Irish Benediction” tucked away in some of Michael’s special possessions and asked to share with his friends … “May God sleep on your pillow, May He hold you in the hollow of His hand, May the roads rise with you, Fair weather to your heels, May the wind be ever at your back … And may you be, a long time in heaven before the Devil know you’re gone …”
