Myrtle Virginia Simmons

Myrtle Virginia (Simmons) Simmons, 99, formerly of Staunton, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023 at English Meadows Assisted Living in Crozet.

She was born in Doe Hill, January 3, 1924, a daughter of the late William Albert and Lydia Frances (Crummett) Simmons. She married Edward Charles Simmons, who predeceased her May 19, 1982.

A devout Christian, Mrs. Simmons was a member of the Staunton Seventh-Day Adventist Church and enjoyed reading her Bible daily. Myrtle will be remembered for her quiet and reserved nature, as well as for her great love of life, which for the past 24 years she shared with her sister, best friend and constant traveling companion, Charlotte.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her nephew, Edward Wayne Simmons, who she raised from childhood and considered a son; brothers, Jake Simmons, Joe Simmons and Darrell Simmons; sisters, Dorothy Hutchens, Elizabeth Simmons and Catherine Armstrong; as well as two infant brothers.

She is survived by her brother, Larry Dean Simmons of Churchville; sisters, Leoda Green of Churchville, Charlotte McCray of Crozet and Carolyn Pullin and husband, “Gib” of Churchville; the children of Edward Wayne, Eric Simmons, Steven Simmons, Joey Simmons and Amber Simmons; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including her caregiver, B.J. Simmons.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Monday, January 9^th at Obaugh Funeral Home with Pastor Robert “Bob” Banks, officiating. Burial will follow in Doe Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Moats, Donnie Green, Berry Pullin, David Simmons, Charles “Butch” Simmons and Josh Simmons.

Honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews in attendance.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
