Ophelia Mahone Colaw Gum, 94, of Monterey, died September 23, 1997 at Augusta Medical Center.
She was born March 24, 1903 at Greenville, a daughter of Lemuel Hiram Mahone Sr. and Maggie Parks Houser Mahone.
Mrs. Gum was a member of Monterey United Methodist Church and a former member of the United Methodist Women. She also attended Highland Senior Citizens.
Mrs. Gum was preceded in death by two husbands, Charles K. Colaw and George G. Gum.
She is survived by three daughrers, Edith Simmons of Hightown, Margaret Smith of Monterey and Mildred Shumate of McDowell; four grandsons, Paul Simmons, Steven Shumate, Jeffrey Shumate and Charles Smith; and eight great-grandchildren, Jessica E. Simmons, Shyla Shumate Hise, Lauren Shumate, Alisa Shumate, Jamie Morgan, Lindsey Vandevander, Ashley Vandevander and Lyle Smith.
Mrs. Gum was the last member of her immediate family.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday, September 26 at 2 p.m. at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Richard Gibson.
Burial will be in the Blue Grass Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Steven Shumate, Jeffrey Shumate, Charles Smith, Paul Simmons, Ezra Halterman and Richad J. Hevener.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending.
