Pauline Praeg

January 21, 1918 — January 30, 2013

Pauline Stoner (Gage) Praeg, age 95, of Mustoe, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at her home. She was born on January 21, 1918 a daughter of the late Cyrus Durey and Alpha Abbott (Davis) Gage. Born and raised in New Jersey, Pauline also summered in the Adirondacks with family who were loggers in the area of Canada Lake. On September 9, 1939 she was wed to Delbert Harry Praeg in Plainfield, New Jersey. A graduate of Plainfield High School as well as Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School, Pauline went on to work for the Democratic National Committee in New York City. After raising her children Mrs. Praeg returned to work at Montclair State University. Pauline was an avid reader and theater fan, traveling to Manhattan and London for plays. She was also an athlete who did publicity shots with her husband on Lake Mohawk, swimming, skiing, ice-skating and aquaplaning. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe, and especially enjoyed finding the best beaches in the Caribbean. True to her zest for life and adventure, Pauline took horseback riding lessons and white watered rafted down the Rogue River in Oregon at the age of 82. Following her husband's passing in 1989, Pauline lived a number years in Clearwater Beach, Florida, and ultimately moved in with her daughter Karen Praeg of Mustoe. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary Praeg and wife, Sharon of Sparta, New Jersey; two grandchildren, Donald Praeg and Darlene Kishpaugh and three great-grandchildren. Remembrances will be private. In lieu of flowers and cards, memorial contributions can be made to the Highland County Humane Society, PO Box 458, Monterey, VA 24465.
