Penny Via

Penny Lee Via, 52, of 864 Todd Road, Mount Sidney, passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 at University of Virginia Hospital.
She was born June 10, 1959 in Staunton, the daughter of Mary Louise Hiner Eckard and the late Robert Kenton Eckard.
Mrs. Via attended Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church and was employed by Morning Star prior to her illness. As a former employee of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham SPCA, she found great enjoyment working with and caring for animals. Additionally, she will be remembered as the loving grandmother to her little angel, Alyssa.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Louise Eckard of Mount Sidney; daughter and fiancé, Ashley Dawn Via and Justin McGann of Stuarts Draft; granddaughter, Alyssa N. McGann; sister and brother-in-law, Pamela K. and Dennis Clark of Staunton; long-time companion, Stacy Hudson of Brandywine, W.Va., and special friend, Fenton Terembes of Monterey.
In addition to her father, Mrs.Via was predeceased by a nephew, Brandon Clark.
A funeral service was conducted 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with the Rev. Darren Massey officiating.
Interment was in Monterey Cemetery.
