Ralph Norman Knapp, 69, of Monterey passed away Monday afternoon, July 24, 1989 at King's Daughters' Hospital in Staunton.
He was born January 5, 1920 at Moore, WV, and was the son of the late Lorenza Dow and Sarah E. (Harper) Knapp.
He was a member of Monterey United Methodist Church and the American Legion. He served in the Army during World War II in the 187th Battalion field artillery in Europe.
Only July 1, 1942, he married Etta Marie Hevener, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Walter Norman Knapp of Halifax and Kenneth Andrew Knapp of Monterey; two daughters, Ruth Marie Botkin of Verona and Velda Elizabeth Fortner of Fairmont, WV; two sisters, Mary Hoskins of Alexandria and Melda Duckworth of Hedgesville, WV; and six grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by Drs. Robert Gue and Jerry Ginn. Burial will be in the Monterey Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland County Heart Fund or the Highland County Rescue Squad, Monterey, Va. 24465.
