Raymond Wimer

August 4, 1919 — February 22, 2008

Raymond Loyd Wimer, 88, of King’s Daughters Community Health & Rehabilitation Center, where he had lived for the past three years and formerly of Blue Grass and Gypsy Hill House in Staunton, died Friday, February 22, 2008 at Augusta Medical Center.  He was born August 4, 1919 in the Strait Creek Community near Monterey, a son of the late Loyd and Lela (Sponaugle) Wimer.

His wife, Ina (Puffenbarger) Wimer preceded him in death on September 13, 2003.

Before marriage he worked at the shipyards in Baltimore, MD.  After marriage he worked at the tannery in Cass, WV.  Prior to retirement he was a truck driver for Mullenax Lumber Company at Blue Grass and also helped his brother-in-law, Harry Puffenbarger, on his farm.

Mr. Wimer was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ester Wagner and Anna Hevener and a brother, Roland Wimer.

He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Wimer and her companion, Robert Bise of Richmond and Donna Wimer of Fishersville; a grandson, Justin Wimer of Fishersville;  two sisters, Lillian Mullenax, a resident of Shenandoah Nursing Home in Fishersville and Geneva Sheets, a very special sister of Staunton and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Monday, February 25, 2008 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. Andre Crummett.  Burial will be in Blue Grass Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Harold Arbogast, Darryl Wagner, Ronald Wimer, Steven, Wimer, Kevin Wimer, Julian Folks, Alan Puffenbarger and Ralph Newlen.

Honorary pallbearers will be family and friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his sister, Geneva Sheets, 49 Villa View Drive, Staunton.
