Rebecca Stump

March 9, 1965 — July 17, 2017

Rebecca “Becky” Leigh (Reid) Stump, 52, of Monterey passed away, Monday, July 17, 2017 at University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.

She was born in Danville on March 9, 1965 the only daughter of and Sarah Ellen (Cook) and Otha Garland Reid Jr. of Martinsville.

On July 19, 1986 she married N. Gregg Stump and together they had two daughters, Ellen Reid Stump of Virginia Beach and Allison Neal Stump of the home.

The secretary of Highland Elementary School, Becky will be remembered as a woman who was kind to all those around her, and was very involved in her community. Throughout her years in Highland County, she was actively involved as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, FFA parent; also recently named an Honorary FFA Member, Band Boosters, Athletic Boosters, as well as the Highland Elementary School Administration.  Additionally, she was very involved in the Highland County Baptist Church, where she was baptized and held membership.

She loved crafts, from cross-stitch to scrapbooking, and everything in-between.  She also loved photography; she worked at the Highland Recorder as a photographer and dark room technician for several years upon moving to the area, she was the "family photographer".  She enjoyed watching Disney movies with popcorn in her spare time, and often enjoyed naps during those movies with her beloved cocker spaniel, Daisy.  She always looked forward to spending time with her family, especially the annual beach trip and Christmas time.

Becky welcomed everyone into her home; no one was a stranger, and often had a hot meal for them.  She enjoyed cooking and baking and was quite good at it; some of her "well-knowns" included her Chocolate Chip cookies, Lemon Pound cake and Homemade Pizza with "all the good stuff".  Along with being a great friend, she was an extraordinary wife and mother. Her love and positive impact on those around her will be felt in this community for years to come.

In addition to her parents, husband and daughters she is survived by two brothers, David Reid and Otha Garland “O.G.” Reid III, both of Martinsville; her beloved cocker spaniel; as well as a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Stonewall Ruritan Building in McDowell with the Rev. Mark Davis officiating.

Burial will follow in the Monterey Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Terry Harper, David Reid, Otha Garland "O.G" Reid III, John Simmons, Duane Hylton, Alan Puffenbarger, Steve Heavner and Arthur Lipscomb III.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, July 20th at Obaugh Funeral Home; and an additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
