Rembert Moyers

November 29, 1924 — June 19, 2008

Rembert Dewey Moyers, 83, of Moyers, WV, died Thursday, June 19, 2008 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.  He was born November 29, 1924 at Doe Hill, VA a son of the late Albert Lewis and Virginia Madge (Blagg) Moyers.

Mr. Moyers, a farmer and avid outdoorsman, was a member of Totten Chapel United Methodist Church.  He served in the U.S. Army, was a member of VFW Post #9666, West Virginia Cattleman’s Association and the Farm Bureau.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Hevener; a brother, John L. Moyers, Sr and a granddaughter, Megan Crouse.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Marie (Thorn) Moyers, whom he married on July 2, 1949; seven children and their spouses, Sarah and Roger Moats of Verona, Dewey Dean Moyers, Sr. of McDowell,  Brenda and David Daniel of Parkersburg, WV, Caroline and Jim Sponaugle of McDowell,  Scott and Shari Moyers of Moyers, WV, Kevin and Kim Moyers of Covington and Sheba and Ernie Crouse of Green Spring, WV;  nineteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille and Shannon Maloy of McDowell and Glenna Ruth and Wes Graves of Harrisonburg and a sister-in-law, Arleta Moyers of Doe Hill.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, June 22, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by Rev. Stanley Kile and Rev. Dave Boger.  Burial will be in Doe Hill Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be grandchildren and their spouses.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday at Obaugh Funeral Home and one hour before the service on Sunday.  Memorial contributions may be made to Totten Chapel United Methodist Church, c/oTeresa Hannon, 388 Hessian Lane, Staunton, VA 24401 or a charity of choice.
