Richard Griffin

June 10, 1919 — May 4, 2008

Richard Lee Griffin, 88, of Staunton, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at his home.

He was born June 10, 1919 in Highland County, a son of the late John Robert and Alta (Slayton) Griffin.

Mr. Griffin served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.  He was a member of VFW Post #2216.  He had been employed by Stanley Furniture Company, formerly Basic-Witz.  He was an avid NASCAR and baseball fan.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter L. Griffin and five sisters, Grace M. Griffin, Bertha E. Williams, Janet Grogg, Gertrude L. Johnson and an infant sister, Delphie Mae Griffin.

He is survived by a daughter, Linda Griffin of Fulks Run; a son, Douglas L. Griffin of Harrisonburg and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. Donald Rose and Rev. Mike Puffenbarger.  Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be VFW Post #2216 members.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
