Samuel Hayden Fawley

Samuel Hayden Fawley, 23, of McDowell, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023, as a result of a vehicle accident.

He was born July 15,1999 in Charlotte, North Carolina, a beloved son of Lance and Melissa (Carpenter) Fawley.

Sam was a member of Horizon Christian Fellowship in Harrisonburg. Sam loved spending time with his family and many friends. He enjoyed beach vacations and good food. He also enjoyed playing basketball, golf and deer hunting. He loved watching sports, especially the South Carolina Gamecocks. A generous person, Sam was known for his big heart and even bigger personality. He will be remembered as a “ray of sunshine” whose sense of humor and beautiful smile drew people to him. People just enjoyed being around him.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, G.C. Fawley Jr; and step-grandfather Thomas Stewart.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by sisters, Grace and Emma Fawley of McDowell; brothers, Hunter Fawley and wife, Sarah Savage of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Matt and Ben Fawley of McDowell; grandparents, Barbara Fawley of Covington, Roxie Downey of Covington and Michael Carpenter of Clifton Forge; step-grandmother, Karen Carpenter of Clifton Forge; his beloved pit bull, Deebo; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Horizon Christian Fellowship with pastor Ronny Breen officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.
