Samuel Scott Sullenberger, 84, of Monterey died Thursday afternoon (May 9, 1991) at University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Va.
He died of complications following heart surgery.
He was born Aug. 13, 1906 at Vanderpool, Va., and was the son of the late Lloyd and Juana (Swadley) Sullenberger.
He was in the retail grocery business and for many years he owned and operated the Monterey Water Company. He had also been engaged in farming.
He was a member of the Monterey United Methodist Church.
On Feb. 18, 1927 he married Mabel (Herold) Sullenberger who survives, of Monterey.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Sue Scott Sullenberger of Glen Allen, Va. and Millie S. Beverage of Richmond, Va.; two brothers, Richard L. Sullenberger of Monterey, and Eugene L. Sullenberger of Sterling, Va.; two grandsons, Charles B. Beverage Jr. of Richmond, Va., Luther Scott Beverage of Franklin, W. Va.; one granddaughter, Elizabeth B. Falkner of Henderson, N.C; four great-grandsons and three great- granddaughters.
A graveside service was held Sunday May 12, 1991 at 2p.m. in the Monterey Cemetery with the Rev. David Schill, Rev. C. William Cox and Rev. James M. Tongue.
Active Pallbearers will be Herbert Lightner, Jacob Hevener, Don Sullenberger III, Shannon Maloy, James Thompson and Melvin Echard.
