Sheba Rexrode

DOE HILL, VA Sheba S. Rexrode, 95, of Doe Hill went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Bath Community Hospital. She was born October 22, 1920 in the Stoney Run Community of Sugar Grove, WV a daughter of the late William Gordon and Lula (Puffenbarger) Smith. Mrs. Rexrode was a member of St. Paul Independent Lutheran Church and was a homemaker, who farmed along with her husband for more than 50 years. She was an avid gardener, who could make anything grow and she enjoyed singing and dancing. A nurturing caregiver, Sheba was a mother to ten of her siblings, and delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On October 26, 1940, she married Delbert M. Rexrode, who preceded her in death on June 2, 2002. She was also predeceased by her great-grandson, Derek Rexrode; son-in-law, Harry "Bid" Eye; two brothers, Gilmer and Cletus Smith; and six sisters, Glenna Puffenbarger, Jane Downs, Willadene Simmons, Vada Wilfong, Wilda McDorman and Charlotte Eckard. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Violet R. Eye of Moyers, WV; Ellen Joeann and Dyer Moyers of Moyers, WV and Linda Margaret and Thomas Jones of Doe Hill; her son and daughter-in-law, Delbert M., Jr. and Betty Rexrode of Doe Hill; seven grandchildren, Pamela Rexrode, Gregory Moyers, Sandra Simmons, Michael Eye, Letitia Amirault, Cheryl Jolley and Jason Rexrode; ten great-grandchildren, Aaron, Sarah, Henry and Stephanie Moyers, Bryan and Austin Simmons, Katie and Rachael Amirault, Kyle Jolley and Bethany Eye; two sisters, Cleo Simmons of Staunton and Wanda Pitsenbarger of Franklin, WV; her brother, Stanley Smith of Harrisonburg and a special caregiver, Harriet Whitelaw. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Obaugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. The committal service will follow in St. Paul Independent Lutheran Church. Active pallbearers will be Chris Amirault, Jason Rexrode, Greg Moyers, Mike Eye, John Bodkin, Jack Bodkin and Jeff Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday at Obaugh Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Independent Lutheran Church, c/o Delbert Rexrode, Jr., 527 Windrush Lane, Doe Hill, VA 24433.
