Solomon Arbogast

March 13, 1923 — November 19, 1997

Solomon Delton Arbogast, 74, of Mill Gap, died Wednesday, November 19, 1997 at his residence. He was born March 13, 1923 at Back Creek, a son of Cleve and Virgie May (Mick) Arbogast of Cherry Grove, WV.

Mr. Arbogast was a welder mechanic and operated his own shop in Mill Gap for 22 years. He was an avid hunter. He was a Mill Gap Ruritan Citizen of the year for service to the community. Mr. Arbogast was a member of the Beulah Presbyterian Church and he served in the U.S. Army in WWII.

On February 10, 1969, he married Ramona Duncan, who survives. also surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Ann Arbogast and Rodney Myers of Harrisonburg, Connie Jewell and Phillip Shifflett of Harrisonburg and Mary Lee Arbogast and Steve Hicks of Harrisonburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Delton Wayne and Mable Arbogast of McDowell; three sisters, Virginia Hise of Hightown, Elsie Chapman of Millboro and Elizabeth Huffman of Millboro; step-daughter and her husband, Teresa and Cliff Folks of Poquoson. Surviving grandchildren are Randy, Vickie, Cindy Gragg, Erick and Jody Shifflett, Shawn and Sarah Arbogast, David, Mike, D.A. and Felicia Smith; step-granddaughter, Nikki Folks; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Heather, Lil' Randy Gragg, T.J., Martin, Lindsey Simmers and Jacob Arbogast and several nieces and nephews. Also step-grandchildren, Pam, Carl, Doug, Sheena and Sarah.

Mr. Arbogast was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Arbogast, grandson Kenny Arbogast, brother Cleveland Delbert Arbogast, sister Dorothy Jack and step-grandson Kyle Lee McCarty.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 22 at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Bill Moore and pastor Chip Hill. Burial will be in the Green Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Bill and Jim Hefner, Joe Simmons, Mike Kump, Danny Baldwin and Mack Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be the hunting party.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 Friday evening at the funeral home.
