Sylvia Wilson

Sylvia Etta Wilson, 95, of Parkersburg, WV died Friday, March 2, 2007. She was born January 13, 1912 in Chillicothe, OH a daughter of Alva and Bertha (Griffin) Dennewitz.

Mrs. Wilson was a resident of Mill Gap 35 years.  She was a 1947 graduate of Shenandoah Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education.  She taught elementary school 6 years in Parkersburg, WV and was employed part-time several years by Highland County Schools.  She also served as a private music instructor.

She attended Seventh Street United Methodist Church in Parkersburg and was a member of the Pisgah Presbyterian Church near Monterey.  She was a member of the Wood County Schools Retired Teachers Association and the Shenandoah University Alumni Association.

Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her husband, Meade H. Wilson of Mill Gap; her parents; her sisters, Edna Dennewitz Schaad and Viola Dennewitz Ewing; her brothers Cornelius and Wallace Dennewitz, all of whom resided in the Parkersburg area.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Wilson Lovelady of Las Vegas, NV; six nieces and nephews and seven first cousins.

Leavitt Funeral Services conducted a funeral service in Parkersburg.  There will be a service at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 8, 2007 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. C. William “Bill” Cox and Rev. Richard S. Gibson.  Burial will be in the Wade Family Cemetery in Mill Gap.

Active pallbearers will be Gibby Crummett, Harry Harlow, Jesse Hickel, Gene Moyers, Jim and Holmes Stephenson.  Honorary pallbearers will be members of Pisgah Presbyterian Church.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. at Obaugh Funeral Home prior to the service.
