Timothy Scott “Scottie” Armstrong, age 58, of McDowell, passed away Monday, May 25, 2026 at Augusta Health.
He was born December 11, 1967 in Staunton, a son of Steve Bradley and Devonne Gay (Stanley) Armstrong of Doe Hill.
Scottie, also known locally as “The Wizard,” enjoyed NASCAR, watching the Dallas Cowboys, and time spent helping his father around the farm. He loved trout fishing, mushroom hunting, playing poker, and pitching horseshoes. Scottie--who was certainly one of a kind--always seemed to have had nine lives, and he had a way of making everyone laugh.
As a Christian, Scottie attended Hiner Church of the Brethren and loved sharing the Word of the Lord. Above all, Scottie will be remembered for his heart of gold and his willingness to help his community in any way he could.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Stevie Armstrong and wife, Beth of McDowell, and Eric Armstrong of Doe Hill; nieces, Tiffany Lacks and husband Robert “Bubba” of Troutville, Jennifer Armstrong of Doe Hill, Sammie Martz and husband, A.J. of Orlando, Fla. and Chryssi Maltby of Apopka, Fla.; nephews, Cory Armstrong of Waynesboro and Dalton Armstrong of Monterey; great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as countless friends, whose friendships he cherished.
He was preceded in death by his fiancée, Linda Roberts in 1992; and nephew, Levi Armstrong.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, May 29, 2026 at Obaugh Funeral Home, McDowell with pastor Jeff Fike officiating. Burial will follow in the Armstrong Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Neil, Steve Shumate, Dustin Wimer, Dougie Bussard, Tim Harold, Jessup Harold, and Doug Siron.
The family will receive friends, 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 28 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the McDowell Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Delbert Rexrode, 527 Windrush Lane, Doe Hill, Va. 24433.
