Vickie Gail Puffenbarger Newton, age 64, of Roanoke passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 3, 1960 in Staunton, a daughter of Nancy Louise (Hise) Newman and Herman Leon Puffenbarger, both of Blue Grass. She was a graduate of Highland High School, Class of 1978 and National Business College, Roanoke, 1980 with a degree in Computer Science Associates of Arts.
Prior to her decline in health, Vickie had been employed with LewisGale Medical Center, as well as US Food within the logistics department - both jobs she truly enjoyed. From a very young age Vickie was a horse enthusiast who spent countless hours on horseback, as well as time caring for her horses. Also in her youth, she fostered an appreciation for animals big and small, and retained that affection throughout her life. Vickie was known for her keen fashion sense and enjoyed shopping trips and her hair stylings. Additionally, she enjoyed country music, bluegrass festivals, dancing on the weekends, and her monthly visits home to Blue Grass to visit with family and friends.
Throughout her decades-long battle with multiple sclerosis, Vickie maintained a positive attitude and continued to be her caring, hard-working, and at times sassy self. She loved life and lived her life with a “no regrets” approach, encouraging us to do the same. From one of her published writings she wrote, “If you’ve lost something, don’t be sad. Be happy you had it.”
She was predeceased by her brother, Craig Puffenbarger; and step-father, Harold Newman.
Surviving family members include her mother, Nancy Newman of Blue Grass; father, Herman Puffenbarger and wife, Ann of Blue Grass; sisters, Misty Goodbar and husband, Kevin of Monterey and Nicole Frye and husband, Todd of Monterey; step-sisters, Ruth Newman of Blue Grass and Beth Newman Gum of Roanoke; nephew, Kaden Wimer; nieces, Carly Pappalardo and Ellie Goodbar; numerous cousins; as well as special friends, Becky Mullins and Bill Johnson.
