Mrs. Virgie Colaw Nicholas, 100, of Blue Grass died Thursday morning, Feb. 25, 1988 in King's Daughters' Hospital. 

She was born Aug. 17,1887 at Blue Grass, a daughter of Henry and Mattie Arbogast Colaw. 

She attended Bridgewater College and taught music for a number of years. She was active in many community affairs. 

In 1913, she was married to I. W. Nicholas, who died in 1961. 

Surviving are a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. 

A service was conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Blue Grass United Methodist Church by the Rev. Richard Gibson, with burial in Blue Grass Cemetery. 

Pallbearers were Olin Sponaugle, Dareld Puffenbarger, W. A. Edwards, Berlie T. Swecker, Jr., Carl E. Simmons and David Johnson. 

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. T. E. Billingsley, R. W. Smith, Howard Puffenbarger, Roscoe Barkley, Jack Simmons and members of the Blue Grass United Methodist Church. 

The family suggests contributions be made to Highland County Rescue Squad in care of Nancy Cox, Monterey, Va. 24465, or to Blue Grass Volunteer Fire Department, in care of Olin Sponaugle, Blue Grass, Va. 24413.
