Virginia “Dottie” Dorothea (Armstrong) Mitchell, age 84, of Doe Hill, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2026 at her home.
She was born October 30, 1941 in Williamsville, a daughter of the late William Arlie and Margie Mae (Ervine) Armstrong. She was united in marriage to Carroll Charles Mitchell on August 12, 1959, and together they shared 66 years of marriage rooted in faith, commitment, love, and family. He preceded her in death on January 6, 2026.
A devout farmers’ wife, Dottie spent sunny days in the hayfield and snowy nights in the sheep barn. She had a passion for growing beautiful flowers, preserving the fruits of Carroll’s garden, and tending to the needs of her beloved grandchildren. In her later years, she enjoyed passing the time with her “dearly beloved” watching the squirrel families, and birds scamper about the yard. You could often find her at her grandchildren’s ball games, livestock shows, and community events, quietly cheering them on with pride.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by all her siblings, Mildred Clements, Betty Griffin, Arlene Trayer, Buck Armstrong, Glen Armstrong, Sham Armstrong, Polly Ritchie, Constance “Connie” Townsend and Lena “Fay” Colaw; and half siblings, Becky Hupman, Brown Armstrong and Hallie Mackey.
She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Marshall and husband, Wendell of Franklin, WV, Karen Mitchell of Broadway, and Leslie Armstrong and husband, Cole of Head Waters; grandchildren, Kimberly Zdan, Warren Marshall, Lisa Neil, Sydney Armstrong, Anna Phillips, and Zach Armstrong; as well as, great-grandson, Carson Neil.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, November 1, 2026 at St. Paul Independent Lutheran Church with Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Warren Marshall, Cole Armstrong, Zach Armstrong, Justin Neil, Chris Zdan, Eli Phillips, Lowell Simmons, Gary Simmons and Mark Rexrode.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
