Virginia Waybright Newman, 85, of Staunton, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at the Oak Hill Center.

She was born August 21, 1915, at Blue Grass, a daughter of John David and Mamie Catherine (Arbogast) Waybright.

She was a homemaker and a member of Central United Methodist Church in Staunton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Erskine Pierce Newman on December 14, 1992; a sister, Jeanette W. Clemmer; and a brother William S. Waybright.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Shirly and Dalton Ragland of Columbia; a granddaughter and her husband, Leslie and John Grott of Richmond; a great-grandson, Benjamin R. Grott; nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Blue Grass Cemetery by the Rev. Daniel Garrett.

The family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m. Friday at Obaugh Funeral Home. There will be public viewing. In case of inclement weather, a service will take place at Obaugh Funeral Home.
