Virginia Swadley Rexrode

Virginia Swadley Rexrode, 86, of McDowell died Sunday evening, January 9, 1994 in Bath County Community Hospital.

She was born September 3, 1907 in Augusta County, a daughter of William Henry and Thressa (Revercomb) Swadley.

On August 2, 1939, she married Edward E. Rexrode, who died on December 20, 1979.

She was a graduate of the College of William and Mary and was an educator for 38 years in public schools. She taught in Alexandria, Augusta County, Warren County and Fairfax County before retiring to Highland County.

She was a member of the Eastern Star, having served as Worthy Matron, Stonewall Women's Club, the GSWC, Stonewall Federation, Highland Extension Club, Retired Teachers Association, Highland Historical Society and had served as editor for the New Highland History book. She was adult Sunday School teacher and an active member of the McDowell United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a sister, Leola Swadley Maloy of McDowell; a niece, Georgianne Maloy Hull of Churchville; two nephews, William Shannon Maloy of McDowell and Dr. Robert H. Rexrode Jr. of Coronado, Ca.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Wednesday, January 12 at Obaugh Funeral Home by Rev. Tim Strock and the Rev. Lester LaPrade. Burial will be in the Clover Creek Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Bruce Dolly, James White, Garner Smith, Mark Ralston, Rudolph Siron, Kyle Obaugh and Lewis W. Shumate.

Honorary pallbearers will be women of the McDowell United Methodist Church and friends.
