Walter James Rexrode, 71, of Franklin, WV died Monday evening, July 25, 1988 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 23,1916 in Highland County, a son of William Morgan Halterman and Minnie Viola Rexrode. On Aug. 8, 1934 he married Treva Virginia Halterman, who survives.
He was a member of Harper Chapel United Methodist Church. He worked as a sawyer in saw mills for 35 years and had retired from Hanover Shoes Co. in 1985.
In addition to his widow, survivors include two daughters, Janet Hyler of Harrisonburg and Betty Jean Conrad of Willard, Ohio; a son, Arthur Bexrode of Harrisonburg; four sisters, Mildred Bailey of Cerdo, W.Va., Bonnie Warner and Shirley McCray, both of Harrisonburg, and Artie Mae Simmons of Monterey; three brothers, Marvin of Staunton, and Randolph and Russell Rexrode, both of Monterey; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
A service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert L Gue, with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Franklin.
Pallbearers will be Clemet, Randall and Melvin Halterman, Blair and Charlie Simmons, James Whetzel, Richard Martin and Carroll Bland.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home in McDowell.
