Walter “Rick” Lee Griffin, age 75, of Mustoe, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2025 at his home.

He was born January 25, 1950 in Mustoe, the son of the late Walter Lawrence and Arthena Elizabeth (Ray) Griffin.

An avid drag racer, Rick enjoyed racing his 1968 AMC Javelin at East Side Speedway and was the 1975 Footbrake track champion. He enjoyed being with friends, hunting, fishing, sport shooting, and teaching hunter education courses.

In 2005, following a 31-year career, Rick retired from Bath County Public Schools where he was employed as a transportation supervisor and head mechanic. Additionally, he was a substitute bus driver and owned a small firearms business. Always a selfless person, he found great joy in volunteering his time to help senior citizens, or simply serving others.

Above all, Rick will be remembered as a loving husband and father, who always placed his family first.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two beloved daughters, Shelby Griffin and Sheryl Leigh (Griffin) Lindsey.

Surviving family members include his wife of 57 years, Bobbie Jean (Brown) Griffin of Mustoe; son-in-law, Matthew Lindsey of Mustoe; sister, Shirley Puffenbarger of Staunton; several nieces and nephews; as well as special caregivers, Cassandra Simmons and Kay Smith.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with pastor Mike Puffenbarger officiating. Burial will follow in Robert Hopkins Griffin Cemetery, Big Valley Road.

Pallbearers will be Tony “Doody” Conner, Eddie Ailstock, Corey White, Jimmy Adkins, Brian Puffenbarger, and Alan Lowry.

The family will receive friends, 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 9th at the funeral home.
