William Hrovat, Jr.

February 8, 1954 — September 24, 2022

Monterey

On Saturday, September 24, 2022, William Hrovat, Jr., 68, of Monterey, passed from this life to the next with his boots on.

Born February 8, 1954, Wil (or “Willie”) grew up in the greater Pittsburgh, PA area, a son of the late William and Lucille (Bizyak) Hrovat.  He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. With an unmistakable smile and sparkle in his eyes, he could light up a room with his witty comments and quick humor. His family remembers the way he made their hearts explode with laughter. Wil loved deeply and made everyone he met feel seen and cared for. He was an ever-present father to his five children and a father figure to so many more.

Wil’s wife Patti was his best friend. They fell for each other in the mountains of Highland County, Virginia. Constantly laughing, they discovered daily adventures together, be it testing his new truck on a snowy pass or building a fire pit to gather around with family and friends. They had no regrets and any they had along the way, they worked through together. Patti never doubted the love he had for her and loved him back madly.

Most important to Wil was his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He started every morning with his quiet time, reading his Bible and praying for those around him. He was teachable and humble, always seeking to learn and improve himself. Wil was a true earthly representation of the Lord’s love.

Wil was an active member of his community and loved his job with Valley Program for Aging Services (VPAS) after a 37-year career at Bath County Pump Storage Project.

Wil is survived by his beloved wife Patti Hrovat of Monterey; children Anna Hrovat of New York, NY, David Hrovat of Denver, CO, Rachel Hrovat Bargery and her husband, Jackson of Norfolk, Mary Jane Hrovat of Encinitas, CA, and Sarah Hrovat of Washington, D.C.; his grandson, Oliver Bargery; and sister, Sherrie Hrovat of New Kensington, PA.

A memorial service celebrating Wil’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church in Staunton with Rev. Andre Crummett officiating.  Following the service, a reception will be held where family and friends may gather in fellowship.

The family asks that any memorial contributions be made to Highland County Senior Services (Highland VPAS), PO Box 117, Monterey, VA 24465 or to Calvary Baptist Church, 105 Garland Drive, Staunton, VA 24401, with "Celebrate Recovery" in the memo line to any checks.
