Winfree Allen Gutshall, 74, of Staunton, passed away Sunday morning, October 29, 1989 in McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond.
He was born September 26, 1915 in Highland County in the Trimble (Dry Branch) area, a son of Orvie M. and Vena S. (Bussard) Gutshall.
He was a retired vocational agricultural teacher of 28 years and was a sales representative for Ralston Purina Co. for 15 years. He served in the Air Force during World War II, received a bachelor of arts degree from Bridgewater College in 1939 and a master's in education from Virginia Tech in 1954. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Staunton Masonic Lodge No. 13 and lifetime member of the FFA and Young Farmers of America. He had received numerous honors and recognition for his dedication and teaching in the vocational agricultural field.
Survivors include his wife, Louie (Pitsenbarger) Gutshall, whom he married 46 years ago; three sons, Allen Wayne of Mt. Sidney and Edwin Lyle and Jerry Blaine Gutshall, both of Richmond; two brothers, Grant E. of Staunton and Byron E. Gutshall of Covington; a sister, Margie Hiner of Waynesboro; and three grandchildren.
A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday in Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by Rev. James R. Cooke, with burial in Augusta Memorial Park and Mausoleum, with Masonic graveside rites.
Pallbearers will be John Moyers Jr., Rodney Leach, Glen Botkin Jr., Lyle Curtis Hull, Austin Shepard, Jacob Hevener, Joe Bowman and Steve Chadwell.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad.
