Woodsie Rachel Devericks, 93, of Monterey died Tuesday morning, May 31, 1988 at her home.
She was born Aug. 9, 1894 at Green Bank, W.Va., a daughter of the late Charles Melvin and Mary Elizabeth (Taylor) Gum.
On Jan. 6, 1916, she married Elliott C. Devericks, who died March 27, 1963.
She was a member of Monterey United Methodist Church. In 1940, she moved to Craigsville and managed the Gray Stone Inn at Fordwick. In 1951, she moved back to Monterey where she has resided on her farm on Jackson River.
She is survived by a sister, Grace Sharp of Mingo, W.Va., a brother, Fred Gum of Green Bank, W.Va. and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. by Dr. Robert Gue at the Monterey United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Head Waters Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Roger Dickenson, Max Gum, Omar King, Carl and Andy Gutshall, Swanson Dowling, Austin Shepherd and Carlton Hull.
Honorary pallbearers will be Woody Gutshall, Billy Pritt, Thaine E. Billingsley, Robin Sullenberger, Eddie Parker, Frank Lasher and J.F. Daniel.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell.
