Edmund Hevener Jr.

June 28, 1953 — February 9, 2022

Edmund Randolph Hevener, Jr., 68 of Blue Grass, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022.

He was born June 28, 1953 in Staunton, a son of the late Edmund Randolph Hevener Sr. and Pauline Thacker Hevener. He was preceded in death by his wife Sandy Hevener, December 4, 2021.

In his youth Edmund cultivated a love of the outdoors due to many trips to visit Highland County with his father and Uncle John Hammer. He also spent many days by the South River at “the Shack” with close friends near his childhood home in Waynesboro, Virginia. After graduating with a degree in forestry from Virginia Tech Edmund moved to Highland County where he met his wife and happily raised their family. Edmund worked as a reporter for The Recorder. Following his time at The Recorder, he started as a janitor for Highland Data Services and quickly advanced in his career at the company. He was very proud of the 25+ year career he spent at Highland Data Services and of being able to live in and raise a family in Highland County. Edmund’s command of language, great wit, and sense of humor will be fondly remembered. He loved sharing tales of his many adventures with his closest friends and family around the warmth of a campfire or the wood burning kitchen stove. Highland County was the most beautiful place on earth to Edmund and he loved to share the beauty with others. The view from his home of Snowy Mountain down the Blue Grass Valley and the panorama of the mountains stretching from the top of Sapling Ridge were among his favorites.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Amanda Hevener and Ben Hooks of Batesville; son, Edmund Randolph Hevener III of Staunton; sisters, Dorothy “Don” Davis and husband, Ray of Staunton and Suzanne Kennedy of Harrisonburg; as well as his grandson, Joseph Randolph Hevener of Staunton.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Brain Tumor Association, 8550 W Bryn Mawr Ave., Ste 550, Chicago, IL 60631; or to Blue Grass Cemetery, 3042 Blue Grass Valley Rd, Blue Grass Va. 24413.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring when the morels and ramps are plentiful. Service details will be announced at a later date.

Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.obaughfuneralhome.com or Hevener Family, 6868 Batesville Road, Afton, VA 22920.
