Ernest Hiner

Ernest Stuart Hiner, 76, of Monterey, died on Monday evening (March 13, 1995) at Oak Hill Health Care Center, Staunton.

He was born on April 23, 1918 at Mill Gap, a son of Andrew W. Early and Martha Theresa (Ryder) Hiner.

He was a member of Green Hill United Methodist Church. He was a farmer and truck driver for Hooke Brothers Lumber Co. until retirement.

Surviving are his widow, Jessie Lea (Noel) Hiner, whom he married on November 24, 1939; two daughters, Carolyn McCray of McDowell and Eleanore Rexrode of Waynesboro; son, Ernest Lee Hiner of Waynesboro; two sisters, Rebecca H. Bird of Monterey and Laura Jean True of Fairfield Glades, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Michael B. and his wife, Tracey McCray of McDowell; Robert S. and Melanie Ann Hiner, both of Waynesboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ressie Hiner and brother, Brown Hiner.

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Haley, assisted by the Rev. Norman Compton, with burial at Monterey Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gibby Crummett, George Bird, John Wagner, Wickie Hooke, Any Hupman, Darrell Gumm Jr., Jim Woods and David Lightner.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home at McDowell.
