Josephine Wimer

April 19, 1924 — March 21, 2020

Josephine Belle (Lantz) Wimer, 95, of Blue Grass, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Pendleton Manor in Franklin, WV.

She was born April 19, 1924 in Circleville, WV, a daughter of the late Lowey Lee and Leva Katherine (Hartman) Lantz. On February 18, 1944 she married the love of her life, Virgil Ray Wimer, who preceded her in death on December 16, 1999.

Josephine was a member of the Blue Grass United Methodist Church, Blue Grass Extension Homemakers Club and the Highland County Senior Citizens.

A woman of strong faith, Josephine would take any opportunity to share the love of Jesus with someone. She was known for having a green thumb, raising a huge garden each year for canning and feeding her family. She was a great cook and also loved to bake. Anyone who enjoyed a meal at her home would be asked numerous times, “what do you need” whenever there was an empty space on their plate.

She enjoyed working beside her husband on their family farm, no matter what duties the day would bring. Over the years together they raised cattle, sheep, pigs, turkeys and chickens. Above all, Josephine enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, predeceased family members include an infant daughter, Diane Wimer; brother, John L. Lantz and infant sister, Katherine Lantz.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Rodger Propst of Monterey and Sandra and Johnny Simmons of Blue Grass; three sons and daughters-in-law, Virgil L. and Linda C. Wimer, Larry and Linda L. Wimer, and Lanny and Janet Wimer, all of Blue Grass; grandchildren, Kirk Propst, J.M. Simmons, Tim Wimer, Chantel Hupman, David Wimer, Angela Wilkerson, Amy Humphries and Abby Sponaugle; great-grandchildren, Michael Humphries, Travis Simmons, Jessie and Jamie Hupman, and Addison Sponaugle; brother, James W. Lantz of Franklin, WV.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Taking governmental recommendations into consideration, the family will hold a private graveside service in Blue Grass Cemetery with the Rev. Andre Crummett officiating. Obaugh Funeral Home staff will receive those wishing to pay their respects throughout the day on Wednesday, March 25th, between 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wimer’s grandsons will serve as active pallbearers and her granddaughters as honorary pallbearers.
