Virgil Simmons

Virgil Roscoe Simmons, 83, of McDowell, died on Saturday, October 25, 1997 at Springs Nursing Center, Hot Springs.

He was born on June 7, 1914 at Cave, WV, a son of Albert Adam and Beatrice Louella (Ware) Simmons.

He was a member of Clover Creek Presbyterian Church. He was manager of McClung Farms near McDowell for a number of years.

His wife, Elizabeth (Hamilton) Simmons, died on November 23, 1989.

Surviving are five daughters, Betty Hodge of Warm Springs, Edna Mae Booth of McDowell, Mary Rexrode of Churchville, Virginia Neff of Staunton and Nancy Hatcher of Takoma Park, Md.; a son, Wayne Simmons of Staunton; two sisters, Greta Simmons of Churchville and Gladys VanPelt of Mt. Crawford; two brothers, Luther and Lester Simmons, both of Staunton; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and son-in-law, Chester Cleek.

Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by two daughters, Ruby Gail Simmons in 1942 and Faye Cleek in 1990.

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Lester LaPrade with burial at Clover Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 tonight at the funeral home.
